Boz Roz CD #2 "Look Into My Eyes" is The Boz Roz Band's second CD. It was recorded and mixed in April, 2001 at Tim Zurowski's Willow Creek Studios. The aim of this CD was to mix original material with a mixture of cover songs that were favorites of the band as well as their audience. Like the first CD, the band attempted to get as live a sound as possible by usually working with the first or second take in order to maintain spontaneity and a raw sound.

Boz Roz CD #1 The band's first CD took quite some time to become a reality, mainly due to the reluctance of Phil (Boz Roz) to record in a studio situation. This is due to his finding that studio recordings often lack the spontaneity that is part & parcel with a live performance. However, the band proceeded with the recording with the aim to make it as close to a live performance as possible. All tracks are first or second takes... rough edges and all!
The CD was recorded and mixed at Willow Creek Studio, which is owned by Phil's friend (and guitarist extraordinaire...) Tim Zurowski. Seven of the ten songs on the CD were written by Phil, two are original songs contributed by friends Mike Nicholls and Ray Luxemburg and the last number is a "live" acoustic number penned by Nick Lowe. Following is a track listing along with a brief description of each song.

THE SONGS

Shadow of the Thunderbird - Copyright © 1997, P.N. Rossner
This song is dedicated to my friend Ed "Tat" Tatoosh, whose last name means "Thunderbird". The Thunderbird is a mythical creature from native folklore who is the creator and controller of all elements and spirits. The song represents all the negative things us humans (particularly of European descent) have done to the planet out of greed, delusion and plain old stupidity. The Thunderbird casts its huge shadow over us as a warning...

Time Train - Copyright © 1993, P.N. Rossner
Back in the late 60's I remember checking out Ram Das' book Be Here Now! That was the content of the whole book (though I didn't "get it" at the time) and that is basically what this song is all about... don't put off to tomorrow what you want to do today 'cause really... there is no tomorrow! All we REALLY have is this moment. Everything else is basically delusion. Okay? Do you get it?? Easy, isn't it... (hmmm...!!)

Boz Boogie - Copyright © 1997, P.N. Rossner
Wow... an instrumental! Don't get many of these anymore, do ya? I was playing around with the main riff for some time and the song just came together over time and practice. Sorry, no heavy meaning here... just boogie on!

Bucket Full of Blues - Copyright © 1991, P.N. Rossner
Listen to the Sound-Bite
I wrote this song the year after Stevie Ray Vaughan died in that tragic accident. Lyrically, it is pretty well self explanatory. At first, when dealing with grief, the feeling is so strong we figure we won't survive it - our tears could fill up a bucket. But time is a great healer and eventually we find our way through the pain and, hopefully, learn from it as well. I would think that this may be the best song I have ever written, so I hope that you like it!

Gypsy Rover - Copyright © 1999, P.N. Rossner
This song is an out and out tribute to my main man on guitar, Rory Gallagher, who died in 1995 at age 47 (my present age...). His passing came as a complete shock and was absolutely devastating to me. Rory was the most powerful performer I have ever seen... and I've seen a lot of the "greats"! So this song is for Rory... my humble effort at telling a brief story of his career along with a reprise which I added as a representation of the transformation between life and the hereafter.

The Crawl - Copyright © 1993, P.N. Rossner
Where I live, we have an everyday occurrence that is commonly called "the crawl". Basically this is a traffic jam that starts clogging things up in the outlying areas as all the vehicles start heading into the big city in order to try and get to work on time. So... I took it a step further and wrote this little ditty as if a fellow's whole life were "the crawl". Scary thought, but no doubt reality in some peoples' lives. Thanks to Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople) for vocal inspiration on this one....!

Creature of Pain - Copyright © 1991, P.N. Rossner
Love - what have you done to my soul....?? Hmmm... this is basically a Guy meets Girl, Girl treats Guy badly, Guy gets bummed out and starts whining... that's about it. A nice song, I think, that people have told me reminds them of Dire Straits(?).

Ecological Breakdown - Copyright © M. Nicholls
Written by my old pal, drummer Mike Nicholls. We originally did this one in a band we were in together some years ago - Punch the Clock. I liked the song and the lyrical content, so its been part of The Boz Roz Band's repertoire for quite a while. Another ecological warning song with a twist!

Damage Control - Copyright © R. Luxemburg
My old buddy Ray Luxemburg wrote this one. It has lots of lyrics, so there is not much in the way of guitar fills. Also, I occasionally have a terrible memory for lyrics (especially when there's lots of 'em), so I sometimes have a tendency to make up the words as I go. However, I had a cheat sheet when I sang this one, so you're getting the real lyrics, probably for the first time since we started doing the song!!

What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love and Understanding
Copyright © Nick Lowe

Originally performed by Elvis Costello as an up-tempo, bash-it-out kind of tune, I have toned it down considerably (just me and my acoustic geetar) and stuck it at the end of the CD on purpose. Lyrically, it is one of those truly thought-provoking tunes. An important, universal message that we really should take to heart...
