THE SONG:

Traveller was written by Phil Rossner in 2004. "For quite some time I had an interest in writing what I would call a 'gothic rock song' in the style of early Uriah Heep or Deep Purple as I always enjoyed the visuals that could be conjured from the lyrical and musical content of that type of song. As a good friend of mine happens to be Bernie Shaw, Uriah Heep's lead singer, I must admit that it was only natural for me to write the song with Bernie's vocal styling in mind."

CHOICE OF MUSICIANS:

As Traveller is one of the songs that will be included in Phil Rossner's third CD, it was only natural for him to use the talents of the musicians in his band, Boz Roz. These include Dean Melanson on drums and Ian Todd on electric bass as well as part-time Boz Roz keyboardist, Ivan Elieff.

For his third CD, Phil wanted to collaborate with a number of his musician friends and colleagues, and, in keeping with this idea, asked friend and recording engineer Tim Zurowski if he would play nylon string guitar, which is heard at the beginning and end of the song. The rest of the musicians, however, were a little more difficult to define and ended up coming together purely by chance….

"Where I live, I met an older gentlemen by the name of Bob Meyer. I found out soon after meeting him that Bob was a classical double bass player. However, it wasn't until some time later that I found out that Bob had, at one time, been lead bass for the London Symphony Orchestra. In fact, in classical circles, he is apparently quite famous! As I was putting together the arrangement of the song, it struck me - a bowed bass would be a perfect addition! I approached Bob about the project and he kindly obliged."

"As for the choir, I really wanted to get the effect of a Gregorian chant at the beginning of the song to set the mood right away. However, I had no idea how to go about finding a group to accomplish this and was close to abandoning the idea. However, it was only a short time later that I was mentioning the project to Jeremiah Sutherland, who owns Bullfrog Music where I sell my CD's, and he mentioned that he sang ancient vocal music and knew of a group of gentlemen who had a choir that could do Gregorian chant. Through Jeremiah, I met Nick Fairbank, who is the leader of the choir and the group was immediately interested in participating in the project, so I had my Gregorian chant after all!"
